The ceremony brought together critics, hair specialists, entrepreneurs and industry professionals to discuss ways of improving the afro salon industry. Goodie bags had products from afrodeity, spell magazine, sensetionnel, manedivas, beunique, eikon brands, curlharmony, @bar London, MIZANI and edgestick. 2 salon owners that have been using NoScrunchie since 2011 spoke about the benefits that it has awarded them, with both of saying they receive on average 3 calls a day from prospective clients who have seen their salons on NoScrunchie. This followed into the future of noscrunchie as mentioned by Leillah Sekalala founder of noscrunchie. The future of noscrunchie and afro salons lies in working together to maximise salon revenues through good customer service, marketing, PR and better sales skills. 2016 will be focussed on helping salons work with the local communities and working on the recruitment market for afro salons.

Lots of press were on hand to enjoy and write about the ceremony. NoScrunchie loves that the press have always been supportive of afro salons.

Meet our Host: Good Afro Salon Awards 2015

Posted October 14, 2015 in Black hair - Leave a comment

As you have probably heard, the Good Afro salon awards are back! And back with a bang they are. On the 22nd of November 2015, NoScrunchie will be hosting the creme de la creme of the Afro salon industry at an intimate awards ceremony  at L’Oreal HQ in Hammersmith. And helping us do that is the amazing Jacqueline Shepherd.

Jacqueline Shepherd 2015

Jacqueline, aka @JaxxSheps is a lifestyle presenter who can be seen gracing the small screen as anchor for popular arts and culture magazine show What’s Up that airs on SKY 1. She has proven to be a much sought after presenter for What’s Up producers due to her  ease at taking on current affairs features such as FGM;  lifestyle items like the resurgence of afro hair as well as entertainment interviews with greats such as Nile Rodgers.

She can also be regularly heard on TV as the voice behind Trace Sport Stars where she narrate the channel’s premium content which is available in 105 countries worldwide as well as flagship shows such as Star Block Work Out, Trace Sports Diaries and continuity.

When people aren’t seeing or hearing her on TV work they’re often commenting on her ‘radio voice’ such is her uniquely husky, well spoken delivery. She spent 3 years at Colourful Radio where Juicy Jaxx was born delivering the juiciest gossip each week on Curtis Walker’s Drive Time show, before taking on her own mid-morning show Colourful Life.

We love Jacqueline because she is passionate about Afro hair and has always been. Excited yet? We know we are!

Early bird tickets available here until 25th October 2015, after which the rest of the tickets go on sale.

Third Annual Good Afro Salon Awards

Posted August 9, 2015 in Afro Caribbean Hair Salons, Afro Caribbean Salons, Black hair, Good Afro Salon Awards - Leave a comment

The Best of Stylists and Best of Clients

On 22 November 2015, the UK’s leading Afro salon review website NoScrunchie.com will host its popular and ever-growing Good Afro Salon Awards. Following in the spirit of its online community, NoScrunchie.com’s Awards is the only ceremony featuring client votes as the only credential for award. Last year’s Awards were featured in Spell Magazine and Black Hair Magazine as well as on several hair and beauty blogs. This year’s event, sponsored by MIZANI Professional, promises to be a glittering affair that honours the best of Britain’s Afro hair talent as well as the people who make those salons what they are – their loyal customers.

rosette awards 2015

L’Oreal Academy will again host the Good Afro Salon Awards this November in  their Hammersmith headquarters, bringing together hair enthusiasts, stylists, salon owners, critics, and industry professionals for a glamorous night of creativity , beauty, and good vibes. Nine stylists and Afro-specific salon owners will be honoured at the event for their superb service and creativity, and all nine will be chosen – in true NoScrunchie fashion – entirely by their own loyal customers in the NoScrunchie community. Categories include weave technicians, colour professionals, wig makers, mobile stylists, and exceptional customer service, among others. To nominate, anyone can simply leave a review for their favourite stylist or salon on NoScrunchie.com for the category for which they would like to nominate them. Competition runs from 1st October to 30th October 2015.

Leillah Sekalala, founder of NoScrunchie, says “We decided to create an awards ceremony that any good Afro salon can enter, simply by recognising and promoting the relationship between clients, stylists and salon owners. Clients can nominate their favourite stylists in a number of categories, and those who receive the most reviews will be shortlisted to attend the Good Afro Hair Awards – it’s as simple as that.”

The community surrounding NoScrunchie and its member salons and clients is crucial to its mission, highlighting the importance of the client-stylist relationship in real salon life. Viral, organic, and online “word-of-mouth” recommendations are 80% more trusted by Afro salon clients than more conventional forms of marketing, and NoScrunchie.com has built a community of genuine people engaging and reviewing the best of British salons. Salons report that after listing on NoScrunchie, their client numbers steadily increase month-on-month. The website has rapidly grown to become one of the best and most-used places for Afro hair recommendations and advice. The Good Afro Salon Awards allow our members – stylists and clients alike – to celebrate and honour those in our community that they feel deserve recognition for their specialty and creativity.
