Winner of Natural Hair Salon Awards UK

As part of Natural Hair Week UK, NoScrunchie run a competition to find the salon that does natural hair best in the UK. We had heard a multitude of complaints from ladies with natural hair about the lack of natural hair salons.
In our opinion natural hair is a large part of the Afro Caribbean salon market and salons need to take it seriously.
We run this competition for a month and were quite pleased with the number of salons with trained Natural Afro Caribbean hair dressers. We had originally only heard of a couple of natural hair salons and both were in London. What we discovered though was that they are many more and a lot of these cater to all hair types as well. (So not just team natural)
The winning salon was Natural Gloe which is a natural salon based in London, specifically Shepherd’s bush.
We caught up with Marlene, owner of the winning salon, Natural Gloe  and this was what she had to share.
Where exactly are you based now?
Natural Gloe is based in Modern Cuts – 74 Goldhawk Rd W12 8HA
What inspires you to do hair?
I believe its important to look after your crown of beauty. Styling for new seasons and special occasions are great, but there is nothing like being able to wear your hair in its natural state, and love it confidently. I also love promoting hair health from inside out. When you look good, you feel good, and I love nothing more than making my clients feel and look good.
What is your first salon memory?
My first and only salon experience was at the age of 9 or 10, it was awful. Lets just say, I arrived with a head of natural beautiful hair, and left with a scalp full of relaxer burns. Woke up the next day to find what was left of my hair, on my pillow. From then on, I vowed to always do my own hair, and I’ve never looked back.
How does it feel to win the UK’s first Natural Salon Awards?
Its an absolutely humbling experience to be the first winner of the Natural Salon Awards. I’ve been Natural for more than 15 years so I’ve had a lot of time to fall in love with my curls and explore all the great things natural hair can do. Styling natural hair is not a new endeavor or a fad for me, it has been part of my life for a long time, thus I very passionate and excited about the new natural explosion happening at the moment. I hope it continues to grow. Natural beauty represents confidence and identity, something which I hope our next generation can uphold and be proud of.

I actually found out about NoScrunchie from a client and thought, wow what a fantastic idea, why didn’t I think of that lol. Its great platform for finding reliable salons and stylists. I’m really happy NoScrunchie exists, it can only get bigger and better.
